5-10 years to solve “twin surplus”: SAJ new chairman

The Shipbuilders’ association of Japan (SAJ) held a press conference on Tuesday. The new chairman Shigeru Murayama, president of Kawasaki Heavy Industries, pointed out the continuing challenging situation in the shipbuilding industry, with both shipping and shipbuilding markets weakened by twin surplus which consist of overtonnage and shipbuilders’ overcapacity. Murayama forecasted that it might take 5-10 years to solve the twin surplus.
